Where they work
Two leaves, no track
French doors are a pair that swings open from the middle, so there's no track in the floor and nothing to slide or stack. That makes them the straightforward choice for an opening that isn't wide enough to justify a folding run — a rear reception room, a first-floor Juliet balcony, a side return onto a narrow garden. Because they swing, they need clear space to open into, either inside the room or out onto the patio. Where that space is tight, sliding doors are usually the better answer.
How ours are built
Thermally broken frame
A polyamide barrier inside the profile separates the cold outer face from the warm inner one, so the frame doesn't draw heat out of the room.
PAS 24 locking
Multipoint locking tested to the enhanced security standard, with shootbolts into the head and cill on both leaves.
Opening in or out
Doors can be hung to open inwards or outwards depending on which side has the room to spare — decided at survey, not assumed.
Side panels where the opening is wider
Fixed glazed panels either side let a pair of doors sit in a wider opening without needing oversized leaves.
Common questions
French doors or bifolds — which suits my opening?
It comes down to width and space. French doors work well up to the width of two comfortable leaves, and need somewhere to swing. Bifolds suit wider openings and fold flat against the reveal, so they don't need swing space. For a narrow garden or a small reception room, French doors are usually the simpler answer.
Can they open outwards onto the patio?
Yes. Outward-opening is common where the room is tight and the patio isn't, and inward-opening suits the opposite. We look at the space on both sides at survey and hang them whichever way makes the room work better.
Are they secure enough for a rear elevation?
The locking is multipoint and tested to PAS 24, the enhanced security standard, with bolts engaging into the head and cill on both leaves. Rear elevations are where most break-ins happen, so it's worth knowing what's specified rather than assuming.
